One in three children are now overweight or obese. There is a difference. Obese is worse and both are diseases. They need to be taken care of because overweight children grow up to become overweight adults if they do not start now with the proper lifestyle.

Childhood obesity has more than tripled over the last 30 years. Today, 12.7 million children are obese, not including those who are merely overweight. This is a hierarchy: overweight, obese, extreme obesity, and morbid obesity. None of these categories are desirable. Overweight children can expect to live 14 years less. Obese children often face type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, and numerous psychological issues such as low self-esteem and confidence.
Poor diet is one of the main reasons children are obese or overweight. Kids often consume high-calorie, low-nutrient foods such as processed sugars, cereals, fast foods, juices, snacks, cookies, and candies. This was evident in my experience at Hilliard Athletic Revolution, now Improvement Warrior Athlete in New Albany. Kids would admit to eating fast food and sugary snacks before workouts. However, poor diet alone is not the main reason kids are overweight.
Lack of physical activity and lifestyle changes also contribute significantly. About 77% of children do not get enough physical activity and rarely go outside to play. Instead, they are glued to TVs, video games, or watching other kids play video games. This sedentary lifestyle is detrimental to their health.
Genetics are sometimes blamed for childhood obesity. While genetics can play a role, they are not the primary factor. Most people are unaware that there are two genomes in our body: the nuclear genome and the mitochondrial genome. The latter is inherited only from the mother. If the mother’s mitochondria are damaged, this is passed down to the child, leading to various diseases. However, most cases of obesity are not genetic but related to mitochondrial issues.
Parents are the most influential role models for their children. Kids learn by observing and mimicking their parents’ behaviors. Therefore, it’s crucial for parents to model healthy behaviors. We are raising future generations, and it’s essential they learn good habits.
Many parents hand their children an iPad or cell phone to keep them occupied. If these devices are not on airplane mode, this can be harmful. Parents also need to improve their nutrition. About 71% of adults in the United States are overweight or obese, setting a poor example for their children.
Timothy Roach’s article suggests starting the day with a healthy breakfast like oatmeal and cutting out sugary snacks and juices. However, oatmeal is not a healthy option as it is high in carbohydrates and sugar. Instead, focus on eating seasonally and locally. Limit fast food intake and ensure plenty of exercise.
While diet and exercise are crucial, the hidden culprits are blue light and non-native EMF. These factors can raise insulin levels and cause dehydration at the cellular level, leading to various health issues. It’s vital to limit exposure to Wi-Fi, smart meters, and other sources of non-native EMF.
