Improvement warrior group personal training for moms
Tomorrow, I’m becoming an Improvement Warrior. I’m excited and also a little apprehensive. As my husband told me today, I’m going to have to “get the rust off.” I’m not completely inactive- I go for walks, I chase after my two young kids, I clean the house, etc. But, there are a lot of muscles I’m not using. And starting tomorrow, I’m going to feel them again.
Here’s a little of my background- I’m a 34-year-old mom of two girls (ages 5 and 3). I’ve never been athletic. As a matter of fact, my mom used to let me stay home when it was field day at school. My lasting memory of playing powder puff football in high school is getting hit by the ball directly in the face. :/ I never played organized sports and have always been a bit of a klutz. I come from a family of overweight people, but growing up, I was somehow naturally thin and able to eat pretty much whatever I wanted without gaining weight. Well, that changed after I had my first baby. Several months after she was born, I was still 15 pounds overweight and not happy about it. Around that time I met Jason Yun and started attending his boot camps. I was pretty scared about working out in a group setting, knowing my fitness level was low and feeling insecure about my lack of coordination. I quickly learned, though, that there were people of all fitness levels in the classes, and I loved the open, supportive environment I found. Over the next year, I lost the weight and got into the best shape of my life. I felt so good about myself. A few people even referred to me as “athletic.” Me!
Then, I got pregnant with my second baby, dealt with terrible morning sickness, and quit exercising. That was almost four years ago. During this time, I’ve been busy with my kids, with work, with two moves, with rehabbing an old house, with helping a sick parent, with life. I’ve gained back those 15 pounds plus 15 more. I know what I need to do, but I’ve kept putting it off. I’ve made every excuse for myself in the book- I’m too busy, I’ll do it later, I can’t fit it into my schedule without taking time away from my kids, I’m too old for that kind of workout now, it’s too inconvenient, etc., etc., etc.
Recently, I’ve made a decision to just start taking care of myself. I’ve faced the fact that I won’t be much good to my family if I’m falling apart physically. Nor will I be the example to my girls that I want to be. I don’t want to repeat my family history, and I certainly don’t want to pass it along to them.

You Can Do It!
I started by seeing a chiropractor to address my back pain, by seeing a dentist for the first time in a couple of years, and by making conscious changes to my eating habits. Now, it’s time to come back to class. No, I’m not looking forward to facing how out of shape I am, but I am excited because I know- this.works. I can do this.
I’ll be blogging my progress along the way, so I hope you’ll follow along with me and, if you haven’t checked out IWF yet, maybe you’ll have the courage to join me! Stay tuned!
