Introduction to Episode 77
Hey, what’s up, Improvement Warrior? Jason Young back with you again. Welcome to Improvement Warrior Podcast. If you’re new here, we discuss alternative health outside of the fitness and nutrition realm, but we still touch on those subjects, mitochondria, circadian rhythm, all that stuff.
Background and Personal Insights
This is episode number 77, inspired by something I wrote in 2019, about 34 insights I’ve gained since starting the Jack Kruse mitochondriac journey. It was about seven months into my exploration when I wrote it, during a challenging time in the hospital with my son, born in April 2019. I’ve learned a lot about hospital environments since then. You’ve got to do what you have to do if you find yourself in a similar situation. We chose not to vaccinate, though I did give him the vitamin K shot, which I later realized might not be ideal. No shots for the kids is what I believe leads to healthier kids.
Current Health Observations
It’s summertime as I record this on June 22nd, and we are experiencing a heatwave here in Ohio. If you watch the video version, you might notice my new shades of melanin—the app says I’ve made over 250,000 IU of vitamin D in the past week. The sun will produce vitamin D until your body determines it doesn’t need more. However, there are still plenty of benefits to being outside, which I’ll likely cover in this episode.

Diving into Episode 77
Let’s dive into the podcast. This is episode number 77, featuring 34 things I didn’t know before 2018. These are in no particular order, just as I wrote them. I’ve been increasingly discussing the mentioned topics because I never talk about or recommend things I haven’t personally tried or researched. That’s a promise from me. I’ve learned that I’ve been misled before, and I don’t want to fool myself or my clients.
Core Beliefs and Practices
Whether or not you believe in this information, it’s available to you. I’ve been practicing these methods since 2018—consider it the ultimate mito hack.
Nature as Healer: Nature is the healer of all diseases. Many diseases can be reversed or significantly improved. Not everyone is curable; mindset plays a huge role. People often embody their diseases, and to overcome them, they must confront deep personal challenges.
Circadian Biology’s Importance: Circadian biology is crucial for health. However, without a healthy, positive, and proactive mindset, the practices won’t be as effective. A go-getter attitude, a “10X” mindset, will benefit you. Be health-obsessed; don’t be casual about your health. Stay vigilant as there are challenges ahead; consistent effort is key.
Witnessing the Sunrise: Witnessing the sunrise daily, while minimally clothed, is vital. Allow your eyes direct exposure—no sunglasses, contacts, or covered eyeglasses—because the sunrise resets your circadian biology. The suprachiasmatic nucleus, the master circadian clock, located behind the retina, benefits from unaltered light frequency for optimal function.
Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, much like the engine of your car. If your engine is broken, it doesn’t matter if you use premium fuel; it simply won’t run. Similarly, all food is converted into electrons, which move through the mitochondrial cytochromes (one through five) to ultimately be reduced to oxygen. Our primary necessity is oxygen. If you can’t breathe properly, serious health issues can arise.
Recently, I’ve been emphasizing the importance of oral health, including oral posture, jaw alignment, and tongue placement. Today, I’ve delved into forward-head or neck syndrome. It occurs when the neck juts forward, disrupting the natural spinal curvature, which can lead to issues ranging from spinal health to breathing, affecting areas from the face to the feet.
Proper breathing is crucial. If you haven’t watched my breath webinar, I highly recommend it. It’s featured in Improvement Warrior Podcast number 12, available on my YouTube channel and in the free Facebook group, Improvement Warrior University (improvementwarriorfitness.com/I-W-U-F-B). Remember, without proper breathing, nothing else functions at its best. You could consider breath as your number one pillar of health, alongside mindset. Everything is interconnected; building up each area gradually is key to overall wellness. Focus on mastering one aspect at a time rather than overwhelming yourself with multiple changes.
Your mitochondrial health is a major determinant of your energy levels and the likelihood of developing diseases. Mitochondria need to interact with Earth’s magnetic field and ambient temperature. Light and temperature are primary external cues, or zeitgebers. We’re experiencing a heat wave here, with temperatures reaching 92 to 95 degrees and heat indices up to 103. Despite the heat, I’ve been spending about six or seven hours outside.
According to Dr. Doug Wallace, over 85% of diseases are linked to mitochondrial DNA rather than nuclear DNA. Dr. Jack Kruse estimates it’s closer to 90-99%. Even genuine genetic diseases indicate mitochondrial dysfunction. By focusing on mitochondrial health, genetic disease symptoms can often dissipate. Some genetic conditions can even be reversed or significantly alleviated, but not everyone can be fixed, especially those who identify with their disease. It’s important to see yourself as the strongest version of you.
You can’t achieve health improvement in the same environment where you became sick. Identify and address the environments that contributed to illness. Your zip code can be more impactful than your genetic code. Urban environments, like Manhattan, often don’t provide the best conditions for recovery due to high EMF exposure. Prioritize fixing your environmental exposure to EMF and light first. If you need help, feel free to contact me.
Grounding, or standing barefoot on natural surfaces like grass, sand, or sidewalks, is akin to charging a cellphone. It’s even more beneficial if you’re exposed to sunlight. Disconnecting from the earth can deplete your energy, akin to a cadaver. Grounding helps maintain the electron-photon interaction, crucial for reducing inflammation and preventing disease.
Continuously seek information that challenges you and elevates your understanding. On episode 76, I discussed insights from a recent mastermind meeting in Louisville, Kentucky. It’s important to step out of your comfort zone and ensure your sources are credible, as there are many who may offer misleading information.
Technology addiction often indicates low dopamine levels, which can hinder open-mindedness and make changing outdated beliefs difficult. This also impedes your ability to progress and level up, as described in number 10. If you haven’t watched the dopamine webinar, check it out at improvementwarriorfitness.com/dopamine. This is crucial for our species’ survival amidst widespread technology addiction. Utilize airplane mode and apply a red filter on your phone to mitigate exposure. Learn to set this up at improvementwarriorfitness.com/redphone.
Electromagnetic fields (EMF), particularly non-native EMF, are the root cause behind every known disease and even those unfamiliar. For a deeper understanding, explore my discussion on the root cause of autism and autoimmunity, which delves into these mechanisms. More details can be found at improvementwarriorfitness.com or in episode number 15.
Blue Light stands as the most significant non-native EMF currently. Written in 2019, it was anticipated that the arrival of 5G would pose an even greater concern. Unfortunately, cities like Austin, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, most of California, Indy, Jacksonville, Louisville, New York City, and Panama City are already facing these challenges. However, both 5G and blue light exposure can be managed or mitigated. Your lights need not emit blue light 24/7, which can be harmful to your mitochondria and disrupt sleep. Visit ImprovementWarringFitness.com/blueblockers for my recommendations on managing light exposure.
All devices plugged into the power grid emit non-native EMFs. This includes Wi-Fi, microwaves, and TVs, among others. It’s crucial to mitigate this exposure as much as possible.
Your light environment holds more significance for health than what you eat or your exercise routine. I discussed this in a video highlighting that 48% to 45% of our brain is connected to light, compared to 10% for food. A small portion, only 2%, directly connects to food, with an additional 8% indirectly related. All food breaks down into electrons, and electrons interact with photons, which essentially means food is transformed into light.
Nothing surpasses sunlight in terms of light benefits. Despite claims about the latest red light therapy panels and UV lights, these cannot compare to the sun. My red light panels, with a multitude of frequencies, operate from 250 to approximately 760 nanometers. In contrast, sunlight extends up to 3,100 nanometers. Don’t be misled; while red light therapy can aid with injuries or acute pain, nothing surpasses sunlight’s benefits, which I experience daily.
All diseases and health issues have their origins in the eye. The suprachiasmatic nucleus, the master clock, is located right behind the retina, which is part of the brain. So, blocking your eyes can lead to a decline in brain health, subsequently affecting overall health.
The eye functions both as a camera and a clock. The suprachiasmatic nucleus runs approximately 100,000 biological programs in every cell, every second. This massive number highlights the importance of quantum biology.
Your Suprachiasmatic Nucleus (SCN), the eye clock, relies on knowing the time. An indoor lifestyle can harm your SCN and disrupt your circadian biology, leaving your internal clock disoriented.
Blocking blue light at night whenever the sun goes down is not optional anymore. So if you have not changed your lights, blue blockers. Okay, we’ve changed our lights here, but I still wear the red blue blockers at night. I don’t take any chances. And if you’re out during the day, going to grocery stores or running errands, and you run into stores that have that, I recommend putting it on or putting the blue blockers on. It is super important because that light, unopposed blue light, equates to anywhere between, well, it depends on the frequency, but most common ones run between 12 to 1 p.m. It’s the signal that they’re giving your brain. So it’s basically like taking a clock or taking your phone and just resetting your clock to whatever, to like 12 to 1 p.m. So if it’s like in the morning, it goes forward. In the evening, it goes backwards, and it takes time to recover. Okay, not to mention what it does to the skin, what it does to the brain, all that stuff.
Blocking the blue light during the day is not optional, especially if you are under blue lights or on technology. And especially if you work under blue lights all day. Highly recommend getting the yellow blue blockers at least. If it was me, I would be wearing red if I had to work under that stuff, and I would be fully clothed. So full, long sleeves, long pants, neck gaiter to protect the thyroid, thyroid after the eyes, number one place to protect.
DHA is the foundation of health. Seafood, therefore, is the optimal choice for your dietary protein. The better the source, the DHA, the better. The smaller the fish or seafood, the better. Larger species tend to have more toxicity issues like mercury, okay? But I have since learned that melanin is one of the best things for chelation of heavy toxic metals and toxins. If you are a vegetarian, you need to become a pesco-vegetarian, which is a fish vegetarian. And if you are a vegan, you need to become a pesco-vegetarian. Read Rob Wolf’s Paleo Solution for the reason why. I don’t recommend that book anymore. But yeah, you can’t be vegan in this day and age. Algae pills do not convert into the DHA form that we need to get into the brain and central nervous system. It needs to be in the SN2 position, and that’s why I don’t recommend fish oil anymore. And PUFAs are very toxic, basically. So the toxicity of, well, in saturated fat, there’s zero positions that oxygen can actually enter in. Monounsaturated, there’s one position it can enter in. And PUFA, polyunsaturated fats, there are two positions it can enter. And then omega-3s, there’s actually three positions. So omega-3s are actually more unstable than regular PUFAs. So that’s why if you’re getting PUFAs, hey! If you’re getting PUFAs, price is a good indicator of what it is. But you want it cold, you want it shipped in ice, you want it in a dark, dark bottle. I cover all this in the three supplements guide. So improvementwarriorfitness.com slash 3sups. So you can check that out if you want to. I also go over vitamin D, multivitamins, magnesium, iodine. All the, I go over the three supplements that I used to recommend to everybody, and now I don’t recommend those, and the three supplements that I do recommend.
You will find the greatest population of seafood in the coldest waters and the least populated in the warmest waters. DHA will also be higher in colder waters. And I believe the one exception to that is the Gulf of Mexico because that was where the meteorite hit that killed the dinosaurs. And so the magnetic field there is just like super, super, super high. But cold water fish is the best, and raw is the best if you can tolerate that. But because cooking does denature the protein, denatures the DHA, but you’re still getting a benefit from eating it.
You need a tech diet even more than you do a nutritional one. Like I’ve always said, your cell phone is the biggest detriment to your health and the things that connect to it. Cell phones, Unknown Death Causers, part three, cell phones and wireless tech was episode number 54, improvementwarriorfitness.com slash UDC3, okay? That’s the most heavily researched one I did, and if you still know somebody who is doing all the modern human things, putting their phone on their head, wearing AirPods, putting their phone in their pocket. Airplane mode, putting it in their bra, okay, send it to them, hopefully, they’ll listen. We got to wake these people up because, I mean, there’s, there’s zombies everywhere.
We are electric. We are semiconductors. Inside each of us, inside each of our cells, we create a voltage charge of about 350 volts. Um, I don’t think that’s right. I think it’s negative, um, I forget what it is. I think it’s negative 40, negative 40 millivolts is what it is. That sounds right. Don’t quote me on that, but I think it’s negative 40 megavolts or millivolts. And because of the cell’s size, that is the equivalent of a bolt of lightning inside of each of our mitochondria. Okay. So that’s when your cells and your mitochondria are humming at the right speed and whatnot. So mitochondria can, their RPMs, they can spin up to 9,000 RPMs. So revolutions per minute. And that’s the same as a Ferrari engine, but a Ferrari engine can’t maintain that. Okay, you on the other hand can if your circadian mechanism is intact.
The greatest detriment to health is the geometry of your respiratory proteins inside your mitochondria. The further your respiratory proteins get stretched out, the worse it is for you. So that is the percent heteroplasmy that happens in your body.
Cold thermogenesis shrinks the respiratory proteins closer together and makes the electrons we eat from food more efficient because you get more energy, more oxygen. Cold thermogenesis will be a future webinar. Water is 21 to 24 times more effective than cold air, but cold air still will give you benefit. Our zeitgeibers are cold and light or temperature and life. Cold thermogenesis also increases your magnetism. So if you do get cold, you want to be exposed to the sun because that’s going to help you absorb more UV light.
We are all eutherian mammals, which means we are affected by both light and dark cycles and the cold and warm cycles. We need to eat and live seasonally based on where you live on the globe.
Mammals. You are a mammal. You should be the fattest in the fall and leanest in the winter. And this is opposite of most humans, especially in the United States. This is a circadian mismatch and it’s why diabetes and obesity are sky-high.
Once your health does reach optimal—and optimal is always, always striving for more and better—you never peak, you’ve never reached the summit. You feel different when being exposed to bad things. But I say I cannot wait to get myself and family out of this hospital. So hospitals are one of the worst places that you can be in. I know they’ve done studies where they show that people who spend time in the ICU, their life expectancy is actually, is, I think, a couple, two to three or four years shorter than other people’s. Yeah, once you start getting this and you get your redox up and you get your circadian rhythm mechanism intact, things that are supposed to help you don’t help you as much. So like I try that, like I get these offers all the time like get this free bottle of this just pay shipping. Okay, I’ve done like three or four of those don’t feel a thing where I used to when I take supplements. They I feel good I feel good I feel good it is but not anymore. Okay, so if your body makes it you’re not supposed to take it, as Jack always says.
